October 17, 2005: How to Use the SMART Board - Presenter: Melissa Jager
The SMART Board is a touch-sensitive interactive whiteboard that allows one to use the whiteboard with either a keyboard or with electronic pencils to project and edit information and then save changes to your computer. You and your students may also use it as a way to present PowerPoint or other video projects in front of a large group.
November 7, 2005: Potpourri! Online Encyclopedias as a Tool for You and Your Students and United Streaming: Bringing Movies into Your Classroom - Presenters: Grolier Online, Darris Lyndstrom; World Book Online, Ed Beniscz; United Streaming, Kay Hauck
This presentation will be divided into sessions for elementary and secondary staff. The first presentation will be the online encyclopedias with half hour sessions for each level with each encyclopedia. It will demonstrate the resources available for staff and students. The second session will be an explanation of how to access and use United Streaming, a program we have purchased from the RESD which allows you to download movies to use as you wish - as segments, as repeats for absentees or students who need extra time.
November 21, 2005: Putting Your Class Online! Blackboard and Respondus - Presenters: Jay Gross and Kristi Bush
An introduction to BlackBoard, this session will show you how to set up a class, enter your students, do announcements and make assignments. Along with BlackBoard will be an introduction to Respondus, a program that allows you to put quizzes, etc., on line by just cutting and pasting from your already constructed Word documents.
November 28, 2005: Basic Excel - Presenter: Corey Grim
This is an introduction and/or review of the basic functions of the Microsoft spreadsheet application known as Excel. The session will cover the basic formulas that allow one to sort columns, add or find averages and to make graphs and charts.
December 5, 2005: Digital Photo Editing - Presenter: Bruce Vigneault
Get ready for the holidays! This session will review some basic functions such as getting rid of red eye, formatting your pictures for the web or email. There will also be time for you to experiment with your own cameras. The session will use Photoshop Elements. If there are enough requests and time, there will also be hints about making your own holiday cards using Microsoft Publisher
December 12, 2005: Assistive Technology - Presenter: Jean Lorenz
This session will give ideas about how to use the computer to adapt your assignments to be more easily accessible to students with special needs.
February 6, 2006: Advanced Techniques in Power Point - Presenter: Corey Grim
Make a PowerPoint presentation that your audience will remember and help your students to present information in a dynamic way. Learn how to import audio and video clips, make unique transitions, link to websites and make your PowerPoint presentations interactive. This session will assume that you have basic experience using PowerPoint; but even if you don't, we'll help you catch up!
